Reasons to Hire a Service Specializing in Hording Clean Up

Hoarding situations are tough both mentally and physically. After you’ve addressed the mental aspects of the hoarding situation, you may be looking to start the restoration process. You may not know where to begin, which is perfectly normal. Before starting the process yourself, it’s recommended to seek professional help. Hoarding clean up services do exist and offer a variety of services to safely and discreetly clean up properties. But why hire someone? Here are a couple reasons why:

  • You May Not Realize the Hazards

Hording Clean Up Services | DKIServices.com Many who find themselves cleaning hoarding situations don’t realize the possible hazards to their health. By hiring a professional service, they have the equipment to remove (and not expose others) to any possible biohazardous situations.

  • There Could Be Additional Damages

Because of a number of items in a location, other problems such as mold or water-related damages could be hiding. Companies who work in hoarding services may be able to complete or refer you to a company who can fix those issues.

  • Peace of Mind

By hiring another service, you can save yourself the mental anguish of wondering what you’ll find next. Professional help in these situations usually outweighs the cost, both monetarily and mentally, rather than if you did the work yourself.

By hiring professionals to help with a hoarding-related cleanup, you benefit in a number of ways. Hoarding clean up services are extremely discreet, professional, and can best help the situation you are in. For a service who can not only help with hoarding-related cleanups, but also mold, water, and structurally related damages call DKI Services. They’ll quickly meet with you after you call and best come up with a plan of action to return things to normal.

National Volunteer Week: Find a MobilePack Near You

It’s National Volunteer Week, and DKI just volunteered to help turn world hunger into hope through DKI member, J.C. Restoration’s second annual Feed My Starving Children MobilePack on June 2, 2017.

Last year, over 500 volunteers throughout the community, including DKI’s team, generously gave their time, surpassing JCR’s goal of 100,000 meals with 116,640, enough to feed 319 children for an entire year! This year, the team has set their goal to pack 125,000 life-saving meals.

The meals, designed to meet the needs of severely malnourished children for an entire year, are vacuum-sealed and consist of vitamins, veggies, soy and rice.

How to Tell if You Need Property Restoration

When flooding, fire, mold, or any other events damage our home, it’s usually pretty easy to tell if there are damages. However, when it comes to personal property, like linens, furniture, and toys, it can be harder to tell. DKI Services has plenty of experts on personal property restoration services to help if your items become damaged. However, how do you know when to call them?

  • Your Items Smell

Property Restoration Services | DKIServices.com Smoke, mold, and water can sometimes affect your items without changing the look of them. If your items smell, but you can’t see any damage, get a second opinion from a property restoration professional.

  • Your Items Have Been Submerged In Water

If your home has flooded and has been flooded for a while, your items aren’t going to fully recover from being thrown in the wash. They may need professional attention to ensure they are fully sanitized and ready for use.

  • Your Items are One of a Kind

If the item is something especially significant, like a wedding dress, be sure you have a professional take a look. After being subject to extreme conditions, items like these need special attention. Handing them to just anyone can bring further damage to them and may even result in permanent repercussions.

If you run into personal property damage, call DKI today. Our team can expertly assess the damage, perform clean up, and have your items back to their original condition.

Prepare BEFORE Disaster Strikes

April 21, 2017

October 16, 1989. It may not ring a bell, but I’m sure if you were or someone you know was living in California at the time, the following day rings clear – The 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake that killed over 60 people and injured more than 3,000. Or, how about August 28, 2005? The very next day, disaster struck the Central Gulf Coast with Hurricane Katrina, the largest and one of the strongest hurricanes in U.S. history!

How many of you were prepared the day prior to these events? How many of you are prepared now if tragedy hit your community tomorrow?

As we have mentioned before, disaster doesn’t always come with a warning; it’s important to always be prepared for the unexpected.

Discuss and follow the steps below with your family, friends, clients and/or staff members to keep your home or business and its residents safe during an emergency.

  1. Research and identify potential disasters for your area.
  • Storm/Flood
  • Fire
  • Earthquake
  • Power Outage
  1. Have an evacuation plan.
  • Have several methods to receive alerts (radio, social media, mobile app, etc.)
  • Include an escape shelter (somewhere safe, accessible)
  • Learn the routes in and out of your area in case of road blockages.
  • Include safety procedures for shutting down electricity, equipment, etc.
  1. Prepare emergency information.
  1. Build an emergency kit. Include:
  • Water and non-perishable foods (don’t forget the can opener)
  • Flashlights and batteries
  • Dust mask
  • Extra clothing and blankets
  • Tools to help turn off equipment (wrench, hammer)
  • Cell phone chargers
  • Fire extinguisher
  • First aid kit and prescription medications
  • Important documents in water-proof sleeve or container

5. Practice

  • Run regular drills in your home and business to help everyone review and know what to do in the event of a real emergency.

How to Prevent Fires in Your Home

There were over 300,000 house fires in 2015 according to the National Fire Protection Association. Fires can be caused by a variety of different things, including smoking, cooking, and electrical issues. While some are completely out of our control, many house fire causes can be prevented. By taking these small steps, you can prevent injury, death, major property damage, and having to call fire restoration contractors

Fire Restoration Contractors | DKIServices.com 1. Get rid of equipment with frayed wires. After unplugging, check any electrical appliances and look for frayed, bent, or otherwise damaged wires or plugs.

2. Watch Burning Candles and Oil Warmers. Ensure that they are being used under proper conditions. Make sure you’ve extinguished the flame or turned off burners when unsupervised. If using these items decoratively, make sure the container or display you’re burning them with isn’t flammable.

3. Dispose of and store chemicals properly. If you work with automotive chemicals or abrasive household cleaners, be sure to follow all directions on how to store them. If disposing of these chemicals, call your local waste management company on how to safely do so.

There are plenty of ways to prevent a house fire, but these are a couple that most homeowners tend to overlook. By exercising caution, you can prevent fires from occurring. If you do need fire restoration contractors for your home or business, call DKI Services. Their expert team can quickly and carefully restore your property to pre-fire conditions.

Prepare Your Business for Severe Spring Storms

April 7, 2017

By: Chelsea Haley, DKI Ventures, LLC

To quote the infamous American writer, Mark Twain – “In the spring I have counted one hundred and thirty-six different kinds of weather inside of four-and-twenty hours.”

While 136 may have been a bit of an exaggeration, spring weather, no doubt, can be very unpredictable, changing from sunshine to storms within a single day. And, lately, 2017 is turning out to be one of the most active and dangerous spring severe weather seasons. Make sure you and your business are always prepared for the varying conditions and their potential threats.

For instance, during a spring storm, your business is at risk from the following:

  • Power Outages
  • Communication Disruption
  • Transportation Delays
  • Employee Absence (from injury or no access to roads)
  • Damage to Facility and/or Equipment

Luckily planning for spring weather and these risks is very similar to planning for any severe weather event. Follow the guidelines below to ensure your safety and minimal business disruption.

Monitor Warnings: Monitor all local weather alerts on the radio, TV and Internet. Social media is also a good method for tracking the news, but only rely on reputable sources.

Seek Out Shelter: Always have an exit strategy. Know how to get out of your area if evacuations are issued, and know where to escape to. Make sure everyone within your company is aware of your emergency preparedness plan, and that you practice drills regularly so the response in an event is second-nature to all involved.

Have Back-Up: In case of a power failure, which is likely during a heavy storm, have on hand a backup generator and fuel to minimize downtime and continue to run necessary equipment.

Also, always backup your digital files on your computers on a regular basis. All copies should also be stored offsite in a safe location.

Perform Inspections:  Thoroughly inspect the exterior and interior of your facility, as well as your equipment.

Restock Your Emergency Kits & Check Your Smoke Detectors: Last, but definitely not least, ensure your emergency kits are properly stocked. Items to include: Flashlights (with extra batteries), blankets, clothing, water, non-perishable food, first aid kit, and important documents and files (insurance, medical information, etc.) you may need to stay away from your business for several days.

Also, if you haven’t done so recently, check the batteries in your smoke detector.

As you can see, the plan above is similar to all plans for a severe weather event. Just remember, once a warning is issued, you don’t normally have much time to prepare – So, take action now!

Can a Disaster Restoration Company Help My Business?

When a disaster strikes your home, you usually have an idea of who to call. However, when a major event causes damage to your business it can get a little harder. Not every disaster restoration company has experience in commercial property restoration. Luckily, in addition to their expert residential services, DKI specializes in commercial restoration work too. But what can they do that’s different from the other companies?

Disaster Restoration Company | DKIServices.comFirst, DKI recognizes that if your business isn’t open, you are losing more than just time and money. You lose customers, can’t provide for your family, and are leaving employees out of work. DKI quickly establishes a timeline of what work needs to be done so you have an idea of when you can reopen.

Second, DKI is highly experienced in commercial work. Since they’ve seen a lot of damages, they can distinguish what work needs to be done with closed doors and what doesn’t. A lot of times, if they can isolate the damage or determine that the work doesn’t endanger you, your employees, or the public, you can reopen while work is being completed.

Finally, DKI has the resources to get it done right the first time. They’ve handled a variety of projects across businesses, so they know how to best fix your damages. DKI has the best technology and products to clean up your property. They also understand state and local codes so you don’t have to worry about violations later.

While we don’t like to think about disaster striking our businesses, keep DKI Services on standby in the event one occurs. You’ll get an expert disaster restoration company on site and starting work quickly after you call.
